Amy was certified in solving canine behavior problems by Cornell University in 1993, and utilizes an insightful tool called a "temperament test" and in 2008 incorporated an indeapth personality profile, which is used throughout the developmental stages of these pups, as an invaluable resource to facilitate this match. We have and continue to use it extensively to understand our adult dogs. We realized that testing the pups as they grow from 3 weeks of age to 8 weeks of age could offer tremendous insight for placement purposes . We are also currently using (ENS) early neuro- stimulation exercises to affect sound and stable temperaments in our pups.
The results of these tests and profile, are the tool that enables us to line up the right pup for each prospective owner. Along with personal insight from speaking with prospective owners and receiving their detailed application,with their specific desires, we are putting forth our best effort to create lasting owner/puppy matches.
The concept is new and some don't understand why they don't simply come and 'pick out' a pup. However, at Avonlea we believe in our methods are what have earned us praise from individuals in our national breed rescue orgainzations.
In our continuing effort to re-invent ourselves in this endeavor, our temperament tests and personality profiles have been revamped to inlcude more specific behavior information about our dogs in the past, current dogs being bred and pups being raised for new homes, in order to offer new owners the sound and stable family companions.
Owners are beginning to appreciate these concepts and realize that this is the path of least resistance. Nothing is forced. The matches we're creating are natural.The pups personality and attitude become clear as does the prospective owners. The yield is well suited pups and owners who are happy and stay together in harmony for their entire lives- indeed every breeders dream!
We don't claim perfection , yet we always strive for it. Beyond adoption day, Amy offers her many years of canine behavior and training experience to every puppy owner as their dog grows up. She is always there to help with how to communicate with your dog and offer insights through puppy life stages and general rearing questions. Through our process, the puppy's personality and temperament are our best effort to assure an appropriate dog for the prospective home.

She slept the entire trip on the plane and was very calm and relaxed on the drive home.
